You've heard of Scrip or T.R.I.P.
and may be wondering....
What is it? Why would you want it? How do you use it?
Has anyone at your school heard of T.R.I.P.? This acronym stands for Tuition Reduction Incentive Program, and this program has been used by many private schools across the United States as a fund-raiser. In 85 words, more or less, it works like this: Your school (or a supporting organization) purchases gift certificates (Scrip) from a broker or local business in bulk amounts at a discount, and then resells those certificates to your families at face value. While this fundraiser could be used to support music, athletics, or some other program at your school, most often, the 'profit' earned is used to reduce tuition costs for the individual families that purchased the certificates, while a small percentage is kept by the organization as a fee for running the program. It is the chance to 'reduce tuition' that piques interest and increases participation in a gift certificate fund raising program.
